Location
Arbury Park lies on the northern fringe of Cambridge
inside the line of the A14.
Development proposals
The site extends to around 35 hectares. It was purchased
in 2001 and was promoted through the Local Plan system
as a sustainable urban extension in association with
neighbouring landowners. The scheme obtained outline
planning permission for a mixed use urban extension
in 2005 following an extensive programme of public consultation.
The development will comprise 900 new homes, including
a high percentage of affordable housing, as well as
employment opportunities, a primary school and new community
facilities. Provision has also been made for the integration
of the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway which will run through
the site.
Project status
The site is being developed in Joint Venture with Gallagher
Estates. Major infrastructure works for the whole site,
commissioned by the Joint Venture, were completed on
budget and on schedule by Galliford Try in August 2006.
This has enabled George Wimpey and Persimmon Homes to
begin construction of the first housing parcels. Marketing
of the new houses began in mid 2006. The first affordable
housing parcels are being constructed by Willmott Dixon
on behalf of two housing associations.
The infrastructure works and detailed housing proposals
have been co-ordinated through a Design Guide for the
site prepared in association with South Cambridgeshire
District Council.
