Telford Ecology Park - newts

Ecological surveys were carried out as part of our planning promotion of this site. A sizable population of Great Crested Newts were identified at various locations on the site. A newt licence was obtained from DEFRA that allowed the newts to be captured and held in a temporary holding area whilst a new Ecology Park was constructed.

The Ecology Park comprises 8 ponds but also includes a new badger set, footpaths and bridleways.

Preliminary surveys estimated a population of around 500 newts whereas around 1000 of these endangered species were collected. The new Ecology Park has been completed and is ready for handover to the council as public open space.
