Location
The land is situated to the north of Houghton Regis, west of the M1 between the motorway and the A5120. Lands Improvement owns or controls some 100 Hectares of predominantly agricultural land.
Development proposals
The land has been highlighted within the area of search for growth under the Milton Keynes Sub Regional Strategy for the Luton/Dunstable/Houghton Regis – Leighton Linslade Growth Area.
Lands Improvement is working in a consortium with adjoining landowners AXA, ORS plc and Fox Land & Property to promote the combined land interest of some 391 Hectares for a sustainable, integrated urban extension comprising new residential and employment uses, local centres, community infrastructure and facilities.
Project Status
The local authorities have combined to form a Joint Committee responsible for planning and transportation. The site has now achieved a site specific allocation in the draft Core Strategy for around 5000 new houses and major employment development. It is identified as a key element of the Council’s Sustainable Communities Strategy and will be a focus for regeneration in the area.
The consortium, in conjunction with the Joint Committee and central government agencies, is working to provide supporting technical information and funding for key transport infrastructure which will help secure delivery. |
