Derek Armitage

Senior Engineering Manager

Derek joins LIH as a Senior Engineering Manager, bringing over 32 years of experience in engineering and environmental consultancy. At LIH, he provides technical support and advice to the Acquisitions and Planning teams on engineering matters, such as highways, drainage, utilities, and environmental matters, such as flood risk, air quality, and contaminated land. He also manages external consultants, and helps shape project strategies by appraising technical information to inform financial models and manage risk.

Derek’s experience has been gained through every stage of the planning and design process, from initial feasibility studies and conceptual masterplanning, through to detailed design and construction. This has involved developing sites in environmentally sensitive, challenging and constrained environments that maximise the developable land available, whilst providing a high level of resilience for the development without exacerbating effects upon off-site areas.

In tandem with technical delivery, Derek has played an important role in embedding a safe working practices culture into the infrastructure design process, along with wider sustainability considerations such as embodied carbon, operational carbon and climate resilience.
