In relation to the 24 acre former Peterborough District Hospital site in the city centre, Lands Improvement are pleased to announce contracts have been exchanged for land sales which will provide up to 350 new homes.

The sales comprise of 7 acres for up to 61 homes to Weston Homes and 14 acres for 289 homes to Kier.

This is a successful conclusion to what has been a challenging project that has seen Lands Improvement complete initial land acquisition, obtain planning permission for up to 350 high quality homes, and complete all site remediation and demolition works in approximately 2.5 years.

The extensive on-site regeneration works comprised of the demolition of c750,000 sqft of previous building floor space and the recycling of 100,000 tonnes of material, plus the careful removal of modern extensions and protection of the grade 2 listed Gables building. In addition Lands Improvement managed the preservation of the property know as 60/62 Thorpe Road, which is recognised as a local building of importance in regards to maintaining the traditional appearance of Thorpe Road leading to the City Centre.

In March 2015 Lands Improvement achieved a key milestone successfully transferring regenerated land to Peterborough City Council enabling the construction of a brand new 3 form elementary school which is under construction.

Also part of the Lands Improvement works was to protect and retain the former Memorial Hospital’s Administration Block. This was achieved through specialist works on-site in conjunction with the Council’s Heritage Officer, and now we look forward to seeing the building façade incorporated into the new school – which is due to open in time for Autumn term 2016.

The Peterborough Development demonstrates Lands Improvements ability to acquire Public Sector assets with environmental challenges into places for much needed new homes in a very short timescale.
